Annual Corporate Charity Day

Each year around twenty five teams of four enter the event, starting the day with a bacon 'buttie' 18 holes of golf .

The teams compete for a number of prizes. Raffle tickets go on sale around mid-April, but the real winners are the three local charities.

A big thank you goes to our loyal Charity Sponsors, Home Gas Supplies, the SPGC Charity Committee members, club members and all those who regularly get involved in making such a difference to people's lives.

SPGC - a small club with a Big Heart

It was in 1993 that Founder Member Arthur Wilkinson decided to hold a "Charity Week-end". In those early days it was a joint event involving both Club and College in an effort to raise money for both College and Club nominated Charities.

Today the event is run by the golf club and takes place on a Friday, usually in May or June; The 2023 event is being held on Friday 19th of May.

Over the years this event has raised over £150,000 and now averages a clear profit of £6,000 per year which is then distributed to three nominated local charities, each of which receives sponsorship for three years.

SPGC 2022 Charity Day - Cheque Presentation Evening

The SPGC 2022 Golf Charity day was once again a very successful event, supported by members and local businesses raising £6000 for our three charities.

Following the event a cheque presentation evening was held recently in the Clubhouse attended by the Charity Committee and representatives of our three charities, NightSafe, Field Nurses and SPACE Preston. Each charity was presented with a cheque for £2000 and asked to say a few words about how the money would be spent within their charity.

At the same event, Club Chairman, Ian McDonnell, presented the Chairman’s Chalice to Nigel Smith and the Rosebowl to Janette Dowdy, winners of this years competitions. Congratulations to Nigel and Janette.

The Charity Committee would like to thank everyone who helped this year to make the SPGC Golf Charity day such a success. Whether by entering a team, sponsoring a tee, buying raffle tickets, helping on the day or donating raffle and auction prizes, all contribute to raising the £6000 for our nominated charities.

A special thank you to Dan, Barry and the team who always present a beautiful course for the charity day.

Representatives of all three charities attended the day as twenty two teams from local businesses and SPGC members competed to raise £6000. Chef for the day, past Captain Jason Rawson manned the BBQ whilst Lady Captain Laura Cannan tried her hand as a biker girl. A great day of golf and £6000 raised for our three charities.
